Yet another opportunity to wade into the bittersweet memories of an era long gone, of a time that once existed, of a hope that endures. When Purva Grover, founder and editor of The Indian Trumpet announced the theme of the next edition, it evoked a wave of memories inside me. Memories of how we grew up in the 80s and the 90s. Memories of managing money and a home at the age of 11 or 12. Memories of how not a single thing was wasted and how a small sliver of Dairy Milk marked salary day.
Ideas came and went, stories were submitted. And then we found out that Amit Tandon was going to guest edit. Having seen his stand up shows and thoroughly enjoyed his unique style and upbeat way of getting us all to laugh at ourselves, this was like the ultimate icing on the cake.
To find out that my piece on how I learnt to manage money and household expenses from my father was one of his favourites just put the whole experience of writing for this edition over the top!
