Author’s Note: The theme of this years international day of happiness is the title of this piece. We live in a time when it seems like happiness is the last thing on our mind. Said the doctor and nurse to themselves on the eighteenth hour of their shift.

Said the cleaner to himself as he wiped down the desks at workplaces so that employees could work safely.

Said the pharmacist to himself who couldn’t touch his face to rub his eyes that were tired from reading prescriptions.

Said the maintenance crew at the water plant to each other as they continued to work to keep water going for those who stayed home.

Said the teacher who was determined education would not suffer even if the schools shut down.

Said the working from home parent who was struggling to find a new normal.

Said the delivery crew whose feet and arms hurt from the sheer volume of work

Said the daughter who was miles apart from her sick mother and could do nothing about it.

Said the family that had spent the most quality time with each other in one day than in their entire lifetime.

Said humanity who realised happiness comes from within every one of us. We only have to choose to find it and embrace it.
