Straight From My Art – Workshop 19 – Diwali Mandala

Around first week November, I shared this pin with my fellow family artists to celebrate Diwali which was on 12th November last year. I loved how the artwork combined a Diwali lamp and a circular mandala.

Both my sisters Lakshmi and Goma finished this one well before Diwali. The delay in posting this is all on me. Another project that took me forever to complete.

The original artwork is in black, but both Lakshmi and Goma went in different directions and came up with amazing interpretations of their own.

Lakshmi decided to use microtip pens and turned it into a colourful artwork:

Lakshmi’s version reminded me of the colourful rangoli we have always drawn since childhood for the festival of Diwali, lighting lamps all around the rangoli that further enhances the beauty of the patterns.

Goma went in another direction and chose the warm colours of a lamp’s glow to make this version of the mandala:

I loved this version for how different it looks from the original as well as the warm colours turning it into a medley of fiery colours that blend beautifully together.

I decided to go in another direction. While I mostly stuck with the original artwork’s black and white theme, I added a pop of colour by colouring only the glow of the lamp in the sketch.

My cousin Goma recently found a beautiful Shiva Parvati drawing done on black paper with white pen. The contrast of white on black looks amazing and I can’t wait to start off on this!

Until next time!
