My cousin Goma found this beautiful piece of art depicting Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. The sketch being on black paper and drawn mostly with white gave an amazing effect. Myself and my sister Lakshmi rose to the challenge and attempted the artwork as well.

The original artist painstakingly used fine dots to draw the dreadlocks as well as other elements, some of which Lakshmi and myself opted to use normal lines instead as it was extremely intricate and precise. My white gel pen that I used for this particular sketch was a bit thicker than what Goma and Lakshmi used, giving my sketch a completely different effect from theirs.

As always, we all brought a little of our own style and imagination into our respective sketches and the results were beautiful!

Lakshmi was the first to finish this back in the first week of April. She used a combination of white gel pen and colour pencils to highlight bits of the sketch using yellow colour.

Goma finished this in the second week of April. She mostly stuck to the dot painting approach. The facial expressions are also perfect in both Goma and Lakshmi’s sketches. Here is Goma’s sketch:

My sketch took a bit longer and was finished by first week of May. I chose to keep to only white colour and found the dot painting effort too intricate, hence went with lines for the dreadlocks. Here is my version:

For our next project, Lakshmi picked a round mandala design. It is probably the most complex mandala we will have attempted so far in our art workshop journey. This drawing also marks a milestone of 20 workshops completed since we began in February 2021 with a simple mandala design. We’ve come a long way since then, attempting so many different art forms and getting inspired by all the creativity surrounding us. It has rekindled our passion for drawing, and has become an integral part of who we are.
